Questions about 1:1 mentoring
Do I need any existing AI knowledge?
No. Start with the fundamentals or at a more advanced level. Sessions are tailored to what you already know.
Is this technical training?
It can be a bit of both. While we can help you get set up with AI tools, the main focus is learning enough about the technology to understand its implications. The emphasis is AI literacy for directors, not technical expertise.
Do we set goals for the mentoring?
Yes. For ongoing mentoring, we agree a small number of goals at the outset, such as building general AI literacy, becoming familiar with AI developments relevant to your industry, understanding potential business model changes, building confidence in the AI questions to ask, or even improving your personal use of AI. The aim is to make sure that over time you see a genuine shift in your knowledge, confidence and ability to apply AI thinking in your role.
Is the first conversation really free?
Yes. The first 30 minutes are at no charge, so you can meet Steve, raise what you want to cover and decide whether to go further.
Can I book only one session?
Yes. Mentoring can be a single conversation or an ongoing weekly or monthly arrangement.
Can I use a session to prepare for a board meeting?
Yes. Use it to understand a new topic, work through a proposal, or prepare the questions you want to ask.
How is this different from the Briefing or Workshop?
The Briefing is a concise introduction. The Workshop is a deeper, practical session alongside other directors. Mentoring is personal: it follows your knowledge gaps, your board roles and your own use of AI over time.
